The Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity is the oldest international dental organization. Alpha Omega (AO) also has the distinction of being the oldest international Jewish medical organization.

AO was founded at the University of Maryland School of Dental Medicine in 1907 by a group of dental students. During those times, Jewish students were not permitted to form social groups so the Maryland students formed AO to fight discrimination. Little did they know but their efforts have created a lasting imprint on AO members to this day. Discrimination is not as prevalent but it still occurs.

The AO international community is comprised of over 100 alumni and students chapters in ten countries. AO is an inclusive organization that welcomes people from all cultural backgrounds but our Vision, Mission, and Values are guided by our three tenets of professionalism, fraternalism, and commitment to Judaic values.

In January 2015, AO, in partnership with Henry Schein Cares, is launching the AO/HSC Holocaust Survivors Oral Health Program in nine North American cities. Our members are volunteering to help treat this deserving population that has dental needs that are unmet. This program truly embraces the generous spirit of our members and the willingness to help others in need.

The Arizona College of Podiatric Medicine student chapter of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine strives to promote education and the enhancement of knowledge in the field of podiatric sports medicine. Our goal is to provide students an opportunity to advance their understanding of evaluation, treatment, management, and prevention of lower extremity injuries in sports and fitness through educational seminars and workshops. We believe that through this mission, we will positively affect the public's awareness of podiatric sports medicine and its promise to ensure health and safety in the active individual.

SERVICE LEARNING

Runner’s Den

On the third Tuesday of every month, the club has an opportunity to evaluate injuries at a local running shoe store. Student doctors are able to evaluate sports injuries, gait abnormalities, and practice proper communication skills with patients. Students also have the opportunity to learn about different shoe types and proper running form. Sign-up is first come first serve basis.

Special Olympics

Every April and October, the club has the opportunity to work with athletes in the Special Olympic games that take place in the area. Students perform physical examinations of the foot as well as gait analysis. This provides a great learning experience for students while serving in the community.

Javelina Jundred

The event is a 100 mile endurance race through the foothills of McDowell Mountains. The club will set up a booth to assist runners with acute injuries. Strapping, taping, icing, and first aid are a few of the things that student doctors will perform at this event.

TOPS Physicals
Pending due to rising cases from the COVID delta variant. Will be updated November 2021.

Guest Speakers/Workshops

The club leaders, along with advice from the faculty advisor (Dr. Jenkins), will discuss which professionals to invite to speak to students about certain podiatric sports medicine topics. Workshops and speakers are pending.

Rock N' Roll Marathon

We work closely with Dr. Udupa to provide post-race care for things such as blisters or common foot injuries.

Nerve Conduction Study: Guided by Ultrasound

Working with Dr. Tassone we do an ultrasound guided nerve conduction study for nerves commonly injured during sports related activities.

MWU's ANST Interest Group shall be an educational and service-based organization devoted to the promotion of neuropsychology. We hope to obtain guest lecturers to present on a variety of neuropsychological topics based on member interests. Our club offers several opportunities to volunteer throughout the academic year for organizations like Autism Speaks and A Walk to End Alzheimer's. Members will have the opportunity to develop research projects related to neuropsychology and its clinical application to prepare for presentation at local, regional, and national conferences. Mission
The mission of the AAVMP at Midwestern University shall be to:

Provide professional and educational resources to Asian and AAPI veterinary professionals, veterinary students, and clients;
Encourage an interest in veterinary medicine among Asian and AAPI youth and support aspiring Asian and AAPI veterinary professionals through providing mentorship and other educational resources;
Foster success for Asian and AAPI veterinary students and professionals by offering support and guidance with consideration of individual cultural backgrounds;
Promote and spread awareness about Asian and AAPI cultures through events and meetings for veterinary students and professionals;
Facilitate networking opportunities among Asian and AAPI veterinary professionals;
Unite and support the Asian and AAPI veterinary community and to demonstrate allyship alongside other affinity organizations; and
Collaborate with similarly aligned diversity initiatives and affinity groups to advocate for greater general diversity in the veterinary profession.

AZCOM Anesthesia Club was organized to promote education and information dissemination regarding the field of anesthesiology early in the medical education process. To meet club goals, second year medical students acting as club officers, along with faculty, assist with the planning and implementation of a variety of educational endeavors.

Members will have the opportunity to attend a variety of workshops and lectures. Examples of activities frequently include the guided use of Anisoft software, basic and advanced airway intubation workshops, epidural and central line placement workshops, and lectures from clinicians and field professionals. Members are also encouraged to enroll in the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and the American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists (AOCA). These national organizations will provide you with up-to-date information regarding national meetings, residency programs, and general career information.

Global Brigades is an organization that empowers communities to permanently rise out of poverty by implementing a 10 year holistic model in which teams go and not only bring access to quality healthcare but also clean water and in-home sanitation projects as well as begin to develop a stable economy.

Global Medical Brigades, specifically, is an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems.The global brigades chapter at Midwestern brings a platform to those students with the desire to increase awareness of global health issues through educating at home and assisting abroad.

By educating ourselves on people and their values, we can be more effective as physicians. At the heart of the physician-patient relationship, we want to build trust, and having some understanding and perspective of one’s culture aids us in doing this more efficiently. As the next generation of physicians, it is up to us to bring healthcare equity to communities that don’t otherwise have a voice. Indifference is a disease, and it’s up to us to address it.

The College of Health Sciences Student Government is a governing body for the 9 programs within the College of Health Sciences. The council meets on a monthly basis to discuss, collaborate and execute issues or events of interest. The purpose of CHSSGA is to unite the student body, faculty and administration of CHS for educational, social and professional growth.

Proclaiming that the process of communication is based upon mutual respect and acceptance, the purpose of the C.H.S. Student Council is to:

Unite the student body, faculty, and administration of C.H.S. in a continuous commitment to educational, social, and professional growth;
Provide a mechanism for governance of program-specific and College-wide student activities and functions;
Provide a vehicle for the exchange of ideas and perceptions concerning College-wide student issues;
Provide a forum for individual program student organizations to coordinate and collaborate;
Represent the C.H.S. student body to the media, other organizations, and government bodies;
Advise individual program student organizations, when requested by the program student organizations;
Conduct annual periodic review of all student organizations under C.H.S. to determine the extent to which each organization has met its stated purpose/mission statement; and
Support first year classes and start-up clubs by providing seed money of $300;
Support returning classes and clubs by providing seed money of $10 per active member of each club or class.

The AZCOPT chapter of CMDA is a part of CMDA, International. The purposes of this chapter are as follows:

We are a group of people who serve without any financial compensation. Many of us belong to Lions Clubs International, but you do not need to be a Lion to join us in our efforts. Based out of southern California we primarily do vision screenings with recycled eyeglasses in southern California and northern Mexico.

Typically we will do around 24 screenings a year, with the majority being in the United States. A few years back the World Health Organization recognized that uncorrected refractive error could be considered a functional form of blindness. If your need for eyeglasses is large enough that you cannot see to drive legally, to make a living, or see well enough up close perform tasks, you have a problem for yourself, your family and society as a whole. If you have no means to acquire eyeglasses to get by, you could be considered functionally blind.

California Lions Friends in Sight has as its primary goal, to address that functional form of blindness. We provide a free vision screening and if possible, free recycled eyeglasses to assist those in need. The recycled eyeglasses are matched as close as possible to the screening refraction to have the patient see better and have their eyes feel comfortable at the same time. However, at our screenings we also assess for ocular health concerns. Diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration are just a few of the common eye diseases diagnosed at the vision screenings. Patients identified with a medical and or surgical need, by our licensed volunteer optometrists or ophthalmologists, are informed of such and directed to seek care. Left untreated an increased risk for organic blindness is very real. The World Health Organization estimates that 40 million people in the world are blind and of that 80% is treatable or reversible. That translates into 32 million people that are in need of help.

California Lions Friends in Sight has as it secondary goal, the need to address that organic cause of blindness that is treatable/reversible. We work with various organizations and individuals to help those identified with a medical and or surgical need at our screenings get access to care. We recognize that science/medicine does have its limitations. In fact, 20% of the blindness in the world is not treatable. So 8 million people in the world, have as their only hope, the medical and technological research of future treatments and technologies for organic blindness.

California Lions Friends in Sight has as its third goal, the need to address the currently untreatable / irreversible causes of blindness. We understand we all only have so much time, money and ability, but we ask you to consider becoming a part of the California Lions Friends in Sight and to catch the vision.

It is the goal of IMPACT Club of Midwestern University to provide an

participants about traumatic brain injuries in athletes and war veterans. To achieve

this goal, IMPACT Club will provide its members access to a monthly newsletter, guest

speakers, community service activities and projects intended to educate and raise

awareness of TBI. The club will complement student’s coursework in neurology,

pathology, and clinical medicine by creating a framework for students to identify a brain

injury and its subsequent symptomology. Current clinical and scientific findings of TBI

will be discussed regularly to prepare students for future patient encounters.

The goal of this club is to expose the students of Midwestern to the world of music and provide insight into all the possible ways music can benefit the lives of medical students as they navigate the challenging path to physicianhood. It will also provide an understanding of how music can be integrated into therapies and treatments of future patients. Music has been proven to benefit patients facing a variety of health problems, such as anxiety, depression, memory loss in the elderly, and many more. Helping students incorporate music into their lives or into the lives of their patients and their future practice could be very beneficial; it provides yet another avenue for treating patients holistically in terms of mind, body, and spirit. This club plans to hold events that educate students on the use of music in different clinical scenarios (e.g. music therapy) as well as provide students resources to learn or produce music/play instruments themselves. The club would also hold events such as open mic nights to allow students to showcase their talents, further connect with the people around them, and bring in speakers to share their insights on music in medicine. This club hopes to provide a unique opportunity to bring music to this campus and explore the many ways it can be used to improve people’s lives.

The Nurse Anesthesia (NA) Class Council 2025 is made up of a group of well-educated critical care nurses chosen from all across the U.S. through a competitive application process that supports an aspiring career in nurse anesthesiology. Certified registered nurse anesthesiologists (CRNAs) are the backbone of the surgical community as more patients are requiring surgeries more than ever. CRNAs are leaders in healthcare, and the NA Class Council 2025 represent the future of nurse anesthesia providers, being the second class of Midwestern University's Entry into Practice Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Program (DNAP). With a rigorous 9 month online doctoral-level courses, 12 months of intense didactics, and 16 months of clinical work all over the U.S., the NA students are introduced to the rewarding and fulfilling career of nurse anesthesiology.

Innovation is one main area of focus for independent pharmacy and is what differentiates them from the corporate pharmacy world. NOSA as a club has two main goals. One is to enhance the delivery, effectiveness, and efficiency of eye and vision care services in communities with little or no eyecare presence. The other is to increase the recruitment and retention of underrepresented minorities into the profession. We are a small club on campus, but we believe in serving those around us who have the greatest need, but the least access to the care that we're being trained to provide. Our chapter is involved in local vision screenings to benefit those in need in downtown Phoenix. If you join, first-year students get access to special mock proficiencies throughout the year for free. All members receive a t-shirt, a spanish optometric book, and a pin for your white coat for clinic.

Phi Delta Chi was founded on November 2nd, 1883 at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Since then it has expanded to over 90 chapters nationwide, making it one of the largest pharmacy fraternities in the country. Most are drawn to become brothers of PDC because of the numerous opportunities for leadership and professional development, as well as the philanthropic outreach the fraternity offers. One such philanthropic opportunity is raising money and awareness for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, PDC’s national philanthropic partner. Many brothers also find that networking opportunities within the fraternity are endless. Ultimately, it is the close-knit, family atmosphere of the fraternity that brothers enjoy the most. As a professional organization, we organize events on campus to bring awareness to politics as they pertain to the queer community in medicine, as well as share events planned by our national chapter of Pride SVMC and Pride VMC. We offer individual mentorship from queer veterinarians for any student seeking guidance in navigating our profession as a queer person. Additionally, we are part of a nationwide network through which veterinarians share work opportunities, which can help you find an LGBTQ-friendly position to comfortably practice medicine while being your authentic self. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are more connected with our parent organization than ever, as the majority of their events have gone virtual. Once it is safe to do so, we will share opportunities to connect at national conferences and national Pride events.

Socially, we seek to create a community of LGBTQ+ individuals within the veterinary program and the other fields of discipline on campus. We plan to host local events for members and allies to connect: casual mixers, nights out at queer-friendly spaces downtown, professional drag shows, and representing MWU at the annual Phoenix Pride parade, to name a few. We are committed to bringing awareness to the disparities that the LGBTQ+ community continues to face while celebrating progress and honoring those who fought for us to live more authentically today.

What we have to offer at CCOM:
- Student learning: We organize out-of-class sessions and mock-practicals to practice OMM
- Student activities: We host lunch talks and workshops about special topics in Osteopathic Medicine
- Volunteering: We provide opportunities to serve our community at Midwestern's only on-campus student-run clinic, as well as other community volunteering. All volunteering events also earn students TOUCH Hours.
- Convocation: We fund-raise throughout the year to provide partial reimbursement for the AAO's national Osteopathic medicine convention, Convocation. SAAO members also receive a discounted rate for the convention.
- Networking: We make it easier for members to reach out to other medical students, faculty, and physicians who share their interest in OMM and Osteopathic Medicine and can serve as excellent mentors for our members.
- Leadership opportunities: We bring in excellent student leaders each year as E-board members to run our organization, and as Directors of the Osteopathic Soft Tissue Clinical Experience. Additionally, SAAO has a national e-board and regional positions that are open to any SAAO member.

SCAVSAB strives to enable veterinary students to expand their current knowledge of animal behavior through lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and community service. We recognize there is an evolving interest in both behavior and in animals beyond the cat and dog in veterinary medicine. Our mission is to expose, promote interest and educate veterinary students to the field of shelter medicine. We hope to impart on our members a knowledge of the issues and the role they as future veterinarians can play to improve animal welfare. We hope to educate about all aspects of shelter medicine, including TNR, neonates, spay/neuter, etc.

The goal of the our TNR Committee is to assist ADLA and members of the community with trapping outdoor cats in order to get them spayed/neutered as a method to control the population. Other goals include educating the community about TNR and co-existing with outdoor cats, collecting food donations for a TNR food pantry and assisting ADLA by writing grant proposals in order to raise funds for more TNR aid and supplies.

The American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) is a national organization that was founded in 1979 by a small group of clinical pharmacists. Over the years the organization has grown to over 12,000 members and 27 student chapters. ACCP’s mission is to expand the clinical pharmacy profession by continuous education of clinical and student pharmacists through research and cooperation. The Student Network of ACCP (SCCP) offers invaluable networking opportunities, leadership positions as well as job and residency preparation for all its members.

The mission of SCCP is:

"1. To familiarize students with the field of clinical pharmacy by providing information about careers and opportunities within the field of clinical pharmacy; promoting dedication to excellence in patient care, research, and education; and encouraging the professional development necessary to function within an interdisciplinary team.

2. To advocate for the role of clinical pharmacists in providing direct patient care, including evaluation of the patient and his or her pharmacotherapeutic needs; initiation, modification, or discontinuation of patient-specific pharmacotherapy; and ongoing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring and follow-up.

VOICE is a student-run organization that seeks to increase awareness, respect, and sensitivity to differences among all individuals and communities in the field of veterinary medicine. VOICE also aims to celebrate diversity within our profession, to encourage campus environments that embrace diversity and promote the success of all students, and to emphasize the importance of cross-cultural awareness in veterinary medicine in order to meet the needs of our diversifying clientele. Lastly, in order to ensure a more diverse future for veterinary medicine, VOICE chapters provide leadership and mentorship to youth, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, who are interested in careers as veterinarians.

In each of these regards, we feel that there is a gap in the curriculum of American veterinary colleges, and that it is therefore the duty of VOICE to partner with the colleges to fill this gap in the curriculum by offering promotional and financial support for educational, social, and service events that elevate the topics of diversity and inclusion in the discourse of our profession.

We aim to be an organized and unified student-led voice that contributes to the enhancement of diversity in the profession and to the cultural competence of veterinary students. We plan to work with the AVMA, SAVMA, and AAVMC regarding these issues as they relate to the veterinary profession.

Mission
The MWU Wilderness Medical Society is focused on the breadth of knowledge where medicine and wilderness overlap. Through a combination of speakers, workshops, and community outreach, we aim to foster interest in medicine in austere environments. Additionally, we have connections to local groups that aid in cultivating love for the outdoors and aid in making nature more accessible to people with disabilities.

Our primary goals are:

To facilitate interdisciplinary interaction among students and faculty expressing interests in issues relating to health, the wilderness, and rural environments.

To provide a forum for speakers to present topics of interest to the general membership.

To provide a forum for interaction between the national organization of the Wilderness Medical Society and members of the Student Interest Group.

To act as an information and referral resource to members pursuing careers in areas related to health, the wilderness, and rural environments.

To participate, when appropriate, in community projects or with other campus organizations on issues relevant to wilderness medicine.
